Misuse is unlawful: Colorado's registry agreement warns that data may not be used to harass, intimidate, threaten, retaliate, vandalize, or assault. Misuse can be a crime. Report safety concerns to HCSO or 911 instead of confronting anyone.
CBI also warns about scams in which callers claim that registration problems can be fixed with gift cards. Do not send gift cards or money based on an unsolicited call. Verify any claimed duty directly with HCSO or the CBI registration unit through its published contact channel.
For suspected nonregistration, preserve the facts you observed and contact HCSO. For an immediate threat, call 911. For a record that appears stale or mapped incorrectly, use the agency channel and allow the registry authority to review it. That approach protects the public while avoiding the harm and legal risk of vigilantism.
